The Old Lady Ghost (2009)

For two years I worked on a private estate doing many various things for the owner. Often I would stay overnight for different things (parties, long work days, rituals, relaxing, or out of boredom). Everyone who worked at the estate was very aware of an old female spirit which also lived in the estate. The spirit was mostly seen as a passing black, wispy mist on the top floors. The owners saw the spirit a few times not moving but standing atop the staircase and they said it was an old female dressed in 19th century black garb. Often we would hear her say something or hear her move something or open a door. This story was the most freaky experience I had with her.

I was staying the night at the estate due to the owners were out of town and I was relegated to watch the house and dogs overnight. Throughout the day, only my friend (boss) and I were at the estate working; everyone else was off or gone for the day. The day was rather bleak and boring, not much to do. In the afternoon my friend (we will now call "Bert") and I got on the conversation of ghosts. Not long into our discussion we started talking about the old lady spirit in the house. Not more than 1 minute later we heard a crash in the basement. Now the basement was not a basement in the standard terms. This basement was fully finished with a large club room carpeted and paneled, a workout room, a full library, and bathroom. There were two giant soft leather couches and a huge 3D TV... so it was more a living quarters than a traditional basement. Now when we heard a crash in the basement we went downstairs to check it out. We noticed nothing odd, nothing fell and nothing was broken. So Bert and I knew it had to be the old lady ghost.

Bert and I decided next to set out a recorder and try to get an EVP in the basement. We walked the entire house first and let all the dogs outside in the yard. The house was empty of all lifeforms, except us. We started our session asking a few brief questions, then we announced that we were going to leave the house and if the ghost lady wanted to say anything, feel free to speak into the recorder we were leaving on. We came into the house about few minutes later. Upon checking the recorder we heard our questions with no responses; however, after hearing us leave and shut the outside door behind us we heard footsteps in the room above us. Then we heard footsteps coming down the steps into the basement and then walking over to the recorder. The recorder had a fuzzy sound and a thud on the table and then the spirit you could hear quickly running off and seconds after we could be heard re-entering the house and talking.

Bert left around 5pm and I of course was staying. The rest of the evening went quiet with no activity at all. Around midnight I laid down on the leather couch in the basement ready to go to sleep. After a little while I was at that point where you are almost asleep, but still alert to your surroundings. Now things got weird. As I laid there I heard my name called out across the room behind me. It was plain as day obviously my name. It was spoken at a loudness just below regular talking levels. It sounded kinda wispy or airy, kinda higher pitched and definitely female. I remained silent and laid very still. A minute later I heard my name called again exactly the same way. I remained silent and acted as though I was sleeping. A few seconds after that I heard my name called again; this time is was much closer to me, but still behind me (behind the couch). I didn't want to move, but I was freaked out and I was laying in an awkward position with my arm behind my head sticking up into then air over the couch. Seconds after I felt an ice cold hand grab my wrist! I quickly yanked it away and sat up. I shouted out for her to show herself or speak up. It was pure silence. I sat on the couch upright for about ten minutes talking to the spirit, but I got no responses at all.

After this encounter she was seen often like before; however, she never touched nor spoke out to me again.
